Custom Toolbox and Hammer

The hammer head is bronze, sand cast and then finished by hand. The handle is turned steel — threaded, chamfered at the end. The striking faces are polymer cylinders, seated with heat-set inserts so nothing sits proud of the surface, machined to tolerance, and mounted dead straight.

The toolbox is bent sheet metal: folded, hemmed, and deburred, with every corner closed a different way on purpose, to compare the results side by side. One corner is oxy-acetylene welded, while the others use spot welding, pop rivets, and an arbor-pressed joint.

One of the fun side projects that came out of the same structured labs was a fully welded, watertight cube, built mostly just to rack up more welding practice and see if it would actually float. It did.
